The Barbershop Bowling Open began in 2014 as an idea for a fun fundraiser for four non-profit organizations in the Erie area. The lead organizations are Lake Erie Sound, and the Flagship City Chorus. The two barbershop organizations, each selected another non-profit organization to support. Lake Erie Sound selected Erie Arts and Culture. The Flagship City Chorus selected The Anna Shelter. All four organizations are bona fide non-profits and contributions are tax deductible. We thank our participants, and donors for their generous support and look forward to many more years of supporting Arts, Culture, and The Anna Shelter with your help.
About Our Organizations:
Lake Erie Sound was established as the Commodore Perry Chorus, more than 50-years ago featuring Barbershop Style four-part harmonies. The championship chorus and its member quartets continually entertain Erie audiences with their annual shows, Singing Valentines and performances at many sporting and other events around town. In 2014 the chorus became resident at the Jefferson Education Society 3207 State Street, Erie, PA. Guests are always welcome to the weekly rehearsals that begin at 7:00 p.m. each Tuesday evening.
The Flagship City Show Chorus was established more than 40-years ago as the Presque Isle Chorus, and is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International. The chorus performs throughout the Erie County area, bringing four-part harmonies and good will wherever they appear. The chorus is comprised women who love to sing and meet each Monday evening at the Immanuel Lutheran Church 1007 Powell Avenue beginning at 7:00 p.m. Guests are always welcome and new singers are always needed.
Erie Arts and Culture was established as The Erie Arts Council and supports arts and culture organizations throughout a five county area surrounding Erie. There are a myriad of organizations supported including The Erie Playhouse, Erie Philharmonic, Erie Arts Museum, Children's Museum, Dafmark Dance Theatre, Lake Erie Ballet, Erie Maritime Museum (US Brig Niagra), Erie County Historical Society and many more. They serve as a partner with the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and are a lead asset in the Erie area. They are strong advocates for Arts in Education and are the primary granting source for arts and culture activities.
The Association for Needy and Neglected Animals was incorporated as a non-profit animal welfare organization in June of 2004. The group is named for Anna - a Shitzu mix that was brought into the local police impound and was scheduled for euthanasia. Our director spotted her and took her in. With a little time, effort and expense, Anna was cleaned up and back on her way to good health. Our organization was started to help other animals like Anna get a second chance. We put the extra time and effort into getting as many adoptable pets new loving, life long committed homes.
